My name is Jeff Bynon, I'm 37 and work in social housing for a local authority in Cheshire West. The liverpool half marathon will be my second half marathon, so my goal is to beat my previous time, or PB of 1 hr 48 minutes.
I heard about LUCIA from a family member who was fortunate enough to visit Ethiopia and see first hand the great work that the charity supports directly to people that need help most. As I didn't have a sponsor in mind LUCIA seemed the perfect choice and I feel privileged to support the cause. I hope I beat my PB but really raising some cash will be more important, it will be good to know that my enjoyment of the race will result in something positive for the people of Ethiopia, with the support of LUCIA.
Are you running in a half marathon or another type of event? ...then why not support LUCIA by getting a sponsorhip page of your own at JustGiving. It only takes about 5 minutes and your friends and family can sponsor you online from anywhere in the world. To get your own page just visit http://www.justgiving.com/luciacharity/ and click on the "Make Your Page" button. Thank you for your support!

Throughout February and March LUCIA supporters could be spied hunched over sheets of paper with puzzled expressions, occasionally trawling Amazon and their bookcases in search of inspiration. The cause? The LUCIA book quiz! Participants had to decipher thirty cryptic clues that described well-known book titles. Many supporters made valiant attempts, but only two people managed to correctly guess all answers - Chris Bayliss and Karen Jackson. To reward their efforts, both have been awarded national book tokens so they can purchase a good read. A big thank you to everyone who bought or sold quizzes - over £50 was raised for LUCIA's projects.

LUCIA is teaming up with Birmingham book lovers to host a unique Valentine's Day event.
February 14th will see LUCIA supporters, book fans - the Birmingham Bookcrossers and members of the public join forces over a hot drink to share their favourite reads. Attendees at the event, which starts at 2pm, will also have chance to listen to award winning author R.J. Ellory speak about his favourite books.
Guests will be able to find a new book to fall in love with, as they hear a series of impassioned recommendations from other bibliophiles and be able to bid on the books at the culmination of the event. The afternoon, which has been supported by hosts Urban Coffee Company and other local organisations, aims to raise money for LUCIA's projects in Ethiopia.
Books are close to the charity's heart. The trustees have all worked in the University of Birmingham Library and want to organise this quirky event so LUCIA supporters can find a new book to love. Everyone knows recommendations are better when they come from people and LUCIA wants to give local readers the chance to inspire one another.
The book event will be happening on Sunday 14th February from 2pm at the Urban Coffee Company in Birmingham city centre. Free to attend, but of course donations are welcome!
