Going the extra mile for LUCIA!
Wednesday, 30 September 2009 18:51
jerseymarathon

On Saturday 27th September 2009, Alison Dingle and Ian Anscombe, not satisfied with the half marathon they'd already run for LUCIA, decided to go for the Jersey full marathon. The weather was lovely and hot which suited the supporters, Dave, Val and Ron who travelled over to Jersey for the weekend just to lend their support. However, the pleasure of such warm weather did not suit the runners; cool light rain would have been much appreciated. At 16 miles with the LUCIA poster displayed on the back of the car, the supporters waited for the wonderful LUCIA runners – it has to be said the supporters moved the car several times on route before they could decide if they’d missed them or not!

Ian came first still smiling and running towards the car with open arms; he was rewarded with yet another bottle of water - this one was cold! Ian was happy to stand and have his photo taken and he managed to get started again without the need of a good shove. Alison came along sometime after Ian. She also had a lovely smile for the supporters. Alison, however, was desperate to stay in front of a man dressed as Dorothy from the Wizard of Oz; he was very close on her heels! She covered her poorly knees with water, had her photo taken and ate a chocolate bar without drawing breath and was off again for another 10 miles.

As Alison laughs and says “I’m doing it to help women and children in a country where their national sport is running – how good is that?”

The LUCIA team would like to congratulate them both on completing the course and give their thanks for all the time they devote to the charity.

Finishing times:

Ian 5hr.07mins, Alison 6hr.21mins
