LUCIA Charity

LUCIA is a registered charity, based in the West Midlands, supporting women, children and communities in Ethiopia.  It is one of the poorest countries in the world, but is full of hard-working and resourceful people.  We give community groups a helping hand to make the most of local resources and abilities, in order to generate income, and in turn to feed, clothe and educate their families.

We believe that the key to positive change is to enable communities, particularly women, to help themselves with long-term sustainable development and to reduce reliance on international aid. LUCIA's programmes include the formation of women's co-operatives and practical support for a school in Sheno district, where we are building and equipping a library for the school and the local population.

Our partnerships with local NGOs ensure that we are sensitive to the problems, wishes and needs of their environment. Not only is this better for the people we are trying to help, but it also means that we have very low administrative costs. Our volunteer Trustees and fundraisers are committed to using our resources to maximum effect in our partner communities.
