Life Uplifted by Change in Africa (LUCIA) is a small volunteer-run international development charity based in the West Midlands, UK. Our goal is to improve the lives of women and children in Ethiopia through local projects encouraging long term growth and development. LUCIA helps to provide women, both as individuals and as community groups, with the support they need to begin generating their own incomes. This improves their lives and that of their families, and they become motivated and less reliant on international aid. The charity also supports orphans and children with education, shelter and healthcare.
LUCIA currently has formal partnerships with two Ethiopian Non-Governmental Organisations: Developing Families Together (DFT) and Women and Children Development Organisation (WCDO). LUCIA supports Women’s Self Help Groups in Ethiopia through WCDO and Saria School in Sheno through DFT. We have recently built the school a library/community centre, and are hoping to fundraise for a toilet block and perimeter fence. We also wish to promote hand-washing and crop growing initiatives in the area. LUCIA also gives funds to Little Voice, a Canadian charity that supports street children in Ethiopia, and supplies Kidane Meheret Children’s Home with clothing.
LUCIA is registered with the UK Charity Commission, as charity number 1112674.
